Being Vocal for Local
So recently with the India-China skirmishes along LAC, the pitch for boycotting Chinese products has gotten higher. Especially after Sonam Wangchuk's appeal, people have really started looking for alternatives. For me it's like a dream come true. I think it's one of those major things I wondered as a child that- why this or that thing is not Indian.
I don't think temporary reasons really justify or sustain big lifestyle changes so for me it's about supporting Local rather than not supporting Chinese. Though it does bother me that the money they earn is eventually used to buy guns and other such stuff which is then used against India. So I think it's best to avoid giving business to any country that is in some kind of conflict with us.
However, as an economist I do believe that markets are driven by competition. And like Darwinism is to evolution, the best product eventually survives in the market. So it's best to find a balance between how much we want to do the right thing and how practical it is for us to do so.
