Maybe i'll believe in god someday
Religion logic goes like this:
I've read the book The Alchemist, I like what it teaches me so I'm going to base my whole existence on it, evaluate everything from its point of view and fight with people who speak against it.
The aforementioned lines were my status update a while back. They got quite a few people asking me about my take on God and religion. Because their question didn’t reflect bellicosity, I actually took out the time and effort to type out how I felt . Adding it to my blog seemed apposite.
To begin with, we pray to some God because we need someone above us.We look for faith in some supreme being because we want to believe that there's someone above looking out for us, someone who can do things that we normal people are incapable of. I haven't felt the need for such an entity as of now. Every time I have been sad, confused, hurt angry or anything, I have found solace in people around me, sometimes a friend or sometimes a family member. Praying to some god doesn’t lighten me.
I don't think there's anyone up there deciding my fate. I believe that every action of mine has something like a domino effect, everything that happens to me is created by me. I’m not averse to the idea of God, maybe there actually is a creator. But if he exists, I don't think he sent us into this world so we could spend the rest of our lives talking to him, pleasing him or fighting for his cause. I don't think he intended for us to spend hours of our lives devoting to him instead of living and associating with what he created. I don't think he even wants us to find out whether he exits or not.
I’ve also heard a few arguments about religion pertaining to idol worship. It is apparently not acceptable to many. According to me, praying to an unseen entity and believing that it has the power to solve your problems should be preferred over someone who has acquired enlightenment. And my reason is simple; no person who has ever walked on this earth, gone through its atrocities or felt its beauty can ever be without the bias of his experiences. To make such a person or his texts the base of your faith is to be limited by the scope of his vision.
Another thing incongruous with my belief system is the citation of various religious texts to present logical reasoning for a plethora of human activities. I find it rather absurd when people quote them for their actions. They say you shouldn't kill people because some Holy text forbids it, they say you shouldn’t eat some animal because it is against some religious faith; they say you shouldn’t do this or that because some religion considers it a sin. But I think the only reason someone shouldn't do something is because he can feel within his soul, the repercussions of his actions.
Even though I find religion unnecessary for myself as of now, I am not denying its relevance.
To believe that there exists a divine power looking over you, gives you the strength to move forward in life. But the addition of these texts and various rules and regulations for different religions is what I find flawed. Religion is not supposed to bind us. Its purpose should be liberation. The only place where a person should seek answers for his actions is his conscience. This is of course my opinion entirely that is based on my experiences. I haven’t needed god as of now, maybe one day I will.
